Automatic or Manual Vehicle Transmissions?
The long debate between automatic and manual transmissions has never ceased and still continues to rage between many individuals – drivers for most part. It is probably quite a big deal to loyalists of each transmission type since neither of the parties seems to stop arguing about which is better and why. When one side finds an advantage over the other type of transmission, it is very likely that the other side would disagree and will state reasons why.

Now, if you are one of those people who are undecided between automatic or manual truck transmissions, and are open to either, you are probably left with questions such as, “How much does a transmissions for sale cost?“How do they work?”, “What are their differences?”, “Which is better?” and “Why?”.
What are they and How do they work?
Manual Transmissions are also known as standard transmissions. Generally, this type of transmission features a driver-operated clutch and a gear stick. Manual vehicles need to shift gears based on its speed. To do this, the driver must use the clutch pedal and the gear stick. When the clutch is depressed, the engine and transmission then gets separated.
Automatic Transmissions –which also has other types, also have a clutch. But instead of using a clutch pedal to separate the engine from the transmission, automatic vehicles have a torque converter which “automatically” separates the engine from the transmission without driver input.
What are their differences?
How both works is already considered a difference. But, when it comes to cost and maintenance, manual transmissions are relatively cheaper than automatics and require less service. If the need for repair arises, manual vehicles are mechanically simpler making them easier to fix too. They also tend to last longer compared to automatics, although this is also subject to the ability of the operator or the driver.
When it comes to shifting speed and learning curve, automatic transmissions dominate. Automatics require less operation and concentration compared to manual vehicles. They are simpler to operate since it only requires the driver to speed up or slow down, while the car chooses the correct gear automatically. Automatics can also be driven with only one foot unlike manual vehicles that require two feet at once. They also require less work load for the driver when in bad traffic. Automatics also shift ratios faster since it does not require time to clutch the pedal and move gear sticks from one position to another.
Which is better and Why?
Choosing which is better between these types of auto or truck transmissions is all up to the user or driver’s need and capacity. If you don’t like constant shifting, extra workload in driving and easy hill starts you can go for automatics. Automatic transmissions are usually very convenient and shifts faster. On the other hand, if you like the challenge of driving and would like to acquire extremely good driving skills it is best to choose manual transmissions. They also cost less, so it won’t be much of a problem, financially speaking.
